who we are
How this all got started…
Why did we start a safari company to be the only ones offering kayak trips to its guests? Well it started like this… In 2000 Alan Feldstein made his first trip to Tanzania. It was during that trip that he, like so many others before him, fell in love with the country, Africa and everything about it – the people, the animals, the natural beauty. In 2005 Alan returned to Tanzania to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro and to track chimps in Mahale.
While Chimp trekking at Mahale, Alan first met Steve Chumbley and his wife Teena who were managers of the lodge where Alan and his wife stayed. Steve and Alan, both avid kayakers, found that common bound of a love of paddling on the water.
In 2008 the call of Africa once again was too strong and Alan brought his children to Tanzania where they too fell in love with Africa. By this time Steve and Teena had started The Infinite Horizon Safari company to put together amazing and unique custom safaris.  As part of Alan’s safari Steve built 2 kayaks. For several days Alan and Steve paddled the warm waters of the Indian Ocean and discussed various kayak trips and boat design. They realized that many others around the world would love a similar experience. From that Infinite Kayak Adventures was born. And now they want to share that love and adventure with you.
Steve Chumbley, BSc Hons Zoology, Dip. Ed.
Co-Founder – Lead Guide
Steve is a Zoology Graduate who was born in England but lived in Malawi as a young boy, which is where his interest in wildlife and exploring really started.
He worked in education for many years – helping to set up new schools in Papua New Guinea, Tanzania and Nigeria. He has been working in the Tanzanian safari business since 1992 while moving closer to his goal of setting up his own safari business.
In this time he has jointly managed with Teena a 40-room lodge in Kenya’s Maasai Mara, a 10-tent permanent luxury camp in Tarangire National Park (Tanzania) and a permanent luxury camp in Tanzania’s remote Mahale Mountains.
As well as this he has guided safari groups through Northern Tanzania and built several Luxury Mobile Camps for other companies. This involved managing, designing, budgeting, purchasing, making equipment and putting in place the operating systems. Steve was also the water and boat coordinator for the recent History Channel production of “Expedition Africa” which recreated the journey of Stanley and Livingston.
Steve is fluent in Kiswahili.

Combining a love of Tanzania and everything it has to offer with a love of kayaking makes Alan the ideal person to market the first, one of their kind kayaking trips offered in Tanzania and to market our custom safaris to clients in the United States.
Alan has been traveling to Tanzania since 2000 making many friends, seeing extraordinary wildlife; and climbing Mt Kilimanjaro. In 2008, he, along with Steve was one of the first people ever to kayak off the coast of Tanzania.
Kayaking has taken him all over the world including British Columbia, Baja, Mexico, the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, Vietnam, Turkey, The Hudson River from Albany to Manhattan, Lake Tanganyika and of course the Indian Ocean.
